General Safety Regulation (GSR)
EU-Wide Mandatory Vehicles Safety Standards Aimed at Reducing Road Fatalities.
What is the GSR?
The General Safety Regulation (GSR) is a set of mandatory safety regulations established by the European Union for road vehicles, including heavy trucks. By introducing stricter safety requirements, the regulation systematically improves vehicle safety performance in real-world road conditions. Its core objective is to reduce road traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
The main requirements of GSR include:
⦁ Mandatory installation of multiple advanced driver assistance and safety systems to help prevent accidents or reduce their severity
⦁ Improvements to cab and vehicle structural design to reduce blind spots and enhance protection for vulnerable road users
⦁ Enhanced overall vehicle safety in complex traffic environments and operational scenarios
According to official EU assessments, these new vehicle safety regulations are expected to save more than 25,000 lives and prevent at least 140,000 serious injuries by 2038, having a long-term and far-reaching impact on commercial vehicle safety.

Which Vehicles Are Affected by GRS?
The General Safety Regulation (GSR) applies to heavy-duty vehicles operating within the European Union (EU) with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes. This scope includes a broad range of commercial vehicles, such as freight trucks, delivery vehicles, buses and coaches.
* GSR covers all new heavy-duty trucks sold in the EU, regardless of where they were manufactured. It also applies to trucks that are imported into the EU from other countries.
